Our Story

The Taylor Gourmet story began in Philadelphia where a guy from Philly grew up on the flavors of the 9th Street Italian Market and countless mom-and-pop hoagie shops throughout the city. When he set out to open his own shop, the goal was to serve up a fresh take on the familiar experience of a neighborhood deli, but remain committed to processes that deliver an unparalleled culinary adventure. Unable to find a good hoagie in DC, he and a friend decided to make their own.
After a decade of building a hoagie empire and gaining a name for themselves in the DC community, new ownership emerged under Steve Kalifa. Taylor Gourmet has survived many challenges, including the pandemic, and we're looking forward to continuing the mission to delivering quality hoagies to the DC area. Stay tuned as new locations come!

With a nod to his roots, Taylor Gourmet built a menu that remixes classic flavors in new ways to deliver seasonal, hand-crafted hoagies and salads. He re-imagined the intimate environment of a local shop and looked to artists, architects, and designers to create an interior space that’s differentiated from fast casual trends.

Consumers expect something different from a Taylor Gourmet meal. That expectation extends to our environment, where we’ve put the same careful thought that goes into our recipes into how we’ve designed the space within our stores.
When customers are in our stores we want them to feel like they are a part of something fresh and exciting. We’ve shunned cookie-cutter interiors and furnishings for a more natural, raw aesthetic.
Exposed brick walls, reclaimed wood tables, custom fabricated metal, steel accents, full-scale garage doors, and original artwork created by local artists and designers are some of the custom design elements that define Taylor Gourmet and make our in-store experience so unique.
